Visiting Makasar City

At 8th August 2008 till 11 August 2008, I visited Makasar City in order to join an International Opthalmologist Congress. I was so nervous since this is my first time visiting an ‘unknown’ city all by myself. The plan was to go there with my lecturer. Unfortunatelly something happened that made me had to go there all by myself.

So, I travelled from Bandung using a travel agent and managed to do all the check-in needed in Sukarno-Hatta airport. The airport was very crowded at that time. I wondered what happened. Then, after waited for 3 hours, I boarded the plane. The plane was also fully booked. Lucky, I was seated in a row with Opthalmologists from Semarang. After several chit-chat, I knew the reason why the airport, planes, and hotels were very busy. Apparently, at the same day, 3 different events were held in Makasar. No wonder......

When I finally landed at the Hassanudin Airport, I was amazed at how cool the airport was!! After some time, I knew that the airport have just opened only for 4 days. No wonder the sign wasn’t all at its place. XD

So I spent 3 days in Congress hotel only. I didn’t attempt any touring around the city, since well... I was still very nervous. I only traveled around the city at Saturday night, with an acuitance of my aunt. That night, I bought several things to be brought back, and tried one of Makasar special foods: Konro Bakar. It turned out that it was terribly delicious!!! Untill now, I can’t forget the taste of those grill ribs.... mm... yummy!!

Then when I traveled, I noticed that Makasar is indeed looks like Bandung. Those old buildings with similar architecture, those roads with trees beside them, and even the one way roads. Amazing....

About the congress.... I must say, I was very fortunate to be able to attend such a congress. Eventhough, I must admit, I was confused at first, but I could enjoy it. And.... the conclusion after I attend the congress is that I did made a correct choice for choosing Opthalmology as my favourite subject. Those advancing technology, those many other sub-subjects inside it. It’s very interesting till the end. At the end, I am so pumped to be able to enter this subject. Now... all I need is this spirit to burn and pray that I could pass the preeliminary test ^_^
